At first glance, we could tell that the Loews New Orleans Hotel stands apart from the crowd. Not only is their building one of the tallest in the city of New Orleans, it boasts the most incredible interior styling around. The finishing touches in hues of golds, blues and black fleur-de-lis set my heart on fire! (fleur-de-lis patterns are my love language) It is the perfect launchpad for a New Orleans family vacation.
Next, we were greeted and checked in by the friendliest service industry staff I’ve EVER met. Ever.
From the woman at the front desk who helped us get settled as we checked in, to the bel-hop who allowed my kids to get a “free ride” on his luggage cart – the service was exceptional! My kids were so excited that someone took interest in them at a fancy hotel for once! This is where the Loews brand really stands apart from others – Loews Loves Families and it really stands apart as the best family hotel in New Orleans. I can really appreciate their focus on service!
From the lounge area with its Baby Grand Piano to the Poydras & Peters Cocktail Bar to the hallways…every inch of this hotel is beautifully appointed.
Perfect Accommodations – Loews New Orleans Family Vacation
Since we have a family of five – three boys 11 and under – the Loews had the perfect room accommodations set up ready and waiting for us. We got to stay on the top floor in two adjoining rooms, the Grand City View Queen and the Grand City View King. And what a view it was from the top! Our New Orleans family vacation was taken to the next level by viewing the skyline at night! It is nothing short of impressive!
The Grand City View rooms are incredibly spacious! This style of room is adorned with two Queen beds or one King bed plus a chair/couch sitting area, large flat-screen television, business desk area, gorgeous marble bathroom, large closet to place all of the luggage, full-length mirror and much more.

Cocktails + Apps at Poydras & Peters During Our New Orleans Family Vacation
After a long day of traveling and then finally reaching our destination, I cannot think of a better way to cozy in for the evening than with a signature night cap and local appetizers! When we finally reached Poydras & Peters in the evening, we weren’t exceptionally hungry because we’d enjoyed a very early dinner, but we were in the mood for a little snack and a refreshing cocktail.
Let me introduce you to one of the best cocktail bars in New Orleans, right inside the best hotel hotel in the city ~ Poydras & Peters. A stop here during your New Orleans family vacation is a must!
A space with this type of hip, laid-back, unassuming vibe is where my heart sings! The service is extraordinary and the mixology and small plate offerings are amazing!
Erick and I decided that we needed a nice charcuterie platter with some delicious meat and nut fixings and an order of the amazing truffle fries!
Along with our small plates, we chose delicious New Orleans cocktails – I chose the Lucy Moussard and Erick chose the Loews New Orleans version of an Old Fashioned. These were just what the travel doctor ordered.
Last, but certainly not least, I would love to make special note of the service we received throughout the hotel, but most remarkably, in their lounge area. We met the kindest server! He was incredible and so personable! We got to talk with him about his home, family and even our shared love of Filipino food! We love to get to know people when we travel. It always makes the world seem a little smaller when we can connect on a deeper, more personal level.
Best Breakfast For A New Orleans Family Vacation – Loews New Orleans
When traveling as a family, one of the most important amenities I look for in a hotel is the ability to procure a delicious breakfast quickly and easily. My boys are ages 11, 7 and 4 so when they wake up, breakfast is the first thing on their little minds!
Poydras & Peters located inside the best family hotel in New Orleans – Loews New Orleans – was exactly what this busy travel family needed! This breakfast made our our New Orleans family vacation that much better!
The staff sat us in a gorgeous blue velvet sofa lounger and table, overlooking the street view, which kept my boys highly entertained!
My boys also thought it was really cool that they got to eat breakfast on a “couch!” Ha! Since this is not something they get to do at home, they all thought they were pretty fancy and a little mischievous. Little do they know that these special couches were made for meal time! (That’ll be our little secret).
So Many Menu Options For A New Orleans Family Vacation…
Poydras & Peters provided an awesome kids menu with typical options found on most kids menus, BUT, there were also some really fun, more sophisticated options as well. I LOVE this! I love watching my children try new, local fare when traveling. The world is your oyster boys…go & get it!
My youngest two boys are pancake monsters, so naturally the giant pancakes found on the Poydras & Peters menu were a huge hit! Declan, our 7 year old, even had chocolate chips on his! Again, he was feeling pretty fancy getting to enjoy extra special pancakes (that tasted like dessert) on vacation! Cameron, our youngest, went big and chose the Bananas Foster French toast. Amazingly gooey, caramel-y bananas topped two pieces of delicious, stuffed French toast. Is your mouth watering yet? Mine is!
Our oldest son, who devours food like an NFL linebacker, chose the Biscuits + Cajun Sausage Gravy off of the adult menu. Yes! I love his appreciation for trying new, delicious foods. He enjoyed the slightly spicy Cajun sausage and actually wanted more!
They all declared after, “This was the best vacation breakfast ever!”
Other incredible breakfast items that we enjoyed trying were the Bayou Breakfast, made-to-order omelets and the beignets.
The Beignets…
Folks, the beignets.
I’m having trouble talking about these gorgeous pillows of magic without weeping.
I haven’t had beignets since I was in France nearly three years ago. I’ve also had a hard time ordering them because I was worried that they just wouldn’t live up to the local, authentic versions in France.
Well, thank you Poydras & Peters, for proving me completely wrong. I love you and I love your beignets.
Your beignets are the stuff my breakfast dreams are made of.
I only waited a solid 3 minutes for these lovelies, and when our sweet server placed them on the table, I couldn’t help but feel the sugary warmth as they were STILL HOT from the fryer.
You guys. Ohmyheavenlystars.
I grabbed one immediately and bit into it…PERFECTION. They were golden fried, ever so lightly, as not to disturb the precious pillowy center and then completely coated in a generous helping of confectioner’s sugar. They were crisp on the outside, light on the inside – exactly as they should be.
I may even have to say that these were the best beignets I’ve EVER tasted. OK, I SAID IT. That was a big statement! However, complete truth. Bravo, Poydras & Peters, I’ll be back and please make sure you have beignets available.
Salt Water Lap Pool at The Loews New Orleans
There’s a joke in our family that our kids really don’t care where we travel to as long as the hotel has a pool and a hottub.
Well, it’s not really a joke anymore because honestly that’s all they care about!
Even though our stay with the Loews New Orleans was relatively short (way too short, in my opinion, so we’ll certainly be back!), our kids went swimming three separate times! I think they would live in swim trunks if I allowed them to!
The pool area at the Loews New Orleans Hotel contains an exceptional salt water lap pool and hot tub with a fun light-changing kaleidoscope feature. It rotates from different hues of blues, greens, purples and pinks to give the area a super fun vibe! It’s especially fun at night when the lighting is more dim—those colors show up like magic!
My husband is always the one searching for the dry sauna at any hotel we stay at, and to his great surprise, the Loews New Orleans had a fantastic dry sauna! After a great morning workout, my husband sat in there to relax and unwind before our busy day began. What a treat!
Things To Do On Your New Orleans Family Vacation
So many visitors associate New Orleans with Mardi Gras and mostly adult-themed activities, however, we found that assumption couldn’t be further from the truth! A New Orleans family vacation is what all families should have on their bucket list! There is so much to see and do and the city itself is so lively – our children were highly entertained whether being inside a museum or just walking on the street! We enjoyed how close the Loews New Orleans Hotel was in proximity to many of the fun family attractions. It was a New Orleans family vacation win-win!
River Boat Tour
Take a paddleboat tour along the hardest-working river in the world – the mighty Mississippi!
Step back in time when these magnificent steam-driven paddle wheelers were the main source of commerce and transportation. Some rides offer meals and entertainment – hop aboard! It’s a fun way to see the Crescent City from a different perspective.
Ride on a Streetcar
Not only is a streetcar a great way to get from one part of the city to the next, it’s also a defining part of the New Orleans history! Different versions of streetcars have been operating in New Orleans since 1835, so for just a few bucks, kids get a little history lesson AND ride in a really cool, unique mode of transportation!
Take A Swamp Tour
Enjoy seeing animals like owls, turtles and alligators in their natural habitat in a really cool, highly-powered boat! A perfect adventure and nature tour all rolled into one!
Storyland
More than two dozen children’s books come to life in this large-than-life, 1300+ acre area all built just for the kids! Enjoy seeing Jack & Jill’s Hill, huge pirate ships, life-sized dragons and so much more!
New Orleans Audubon Zoo
Families love the zoo and the New Orleans Audubon Zoo is one of the best of its kind! Let your children get the wiggles out while they enjoy seeing many unique animals such as the Komodo dragon, rare alligators and of course, lions, tigers and bears!
Sports Fans Unite!
If you are a big football or basketball fan, you are in luck! Families can attend a New Orleans Saints or New Orleans Pelicans game if you visit during these seasons.
I know the next time we visit New Orleans it’ll have to be during football season as my sons are big-time football fans!
National WWII Museum
My oldest children are HUGE WWI & WWII history buffs. We own all the children’s books, we’ve listened to dozens of books on Audible, and watched all the movies, so naturally a stop at the WWII Museum in New Orleans is a must.
The mission of the WWII Museum is to tell the story of the American experience during WWII so we all can learn the price of our freedoms and hopefully be inspired by what we learn.
With plenty of weapons, artifacts and planes to explore, everyone will find something to enjoy at the National WWII Museum.
Lafayette Square
As the second-oldest public park in New Orleans, it is a great space for the kids to run off the wiggles and for parents to catch a well-needed break on a park bench.
Gulf Shores & Orange Beach
The coastlines near New Orleans are amongst some of the most beautiful in the nation. Within just a few hours drive, you can take your family to the beach for the day – how amazing!

Loews NOLA looks like a fantastic place to stay. We were in The Big Easy not too long ago and had a great time. I will definitely check out Loews for our next trip there. The location is great, and I see they serve beignets! I’m ready to start packing! 🙂
