About two years ago, I asked my oldest children where they would like to go on a “dream vacation.” Their answer was so definitive: “Mom, LEGOLAND of course!” See…my boys are obsessed…make that completely obsessed with all things Legos! A trip to Legoland Florida Resort just seemed like the most appropriate answer from them. Since we also like to gift ‘experiences’ each year at Christmas time, this trip worked its way into our travel plans beautifully. Staying at the Legoland Florida Resort was definitely one of the highlights of my boys’ lives. Read on to learn all about our Legoland Florida Resort experience.
Why Stay At Legoland Florida Resort?
If you have children, or you yourself is a Lego-lover, Legoland Florida is the place for you to stay during a vacation to central Florida.
1. Everything is AWESOME! (And Lego-themed!)
From the restaurants, meals and food, to the floating Lego bricks inside the pool, the basic Lego brick was the obvious token of inspiration for all things at this resort.
2. Proximity to Legoland Florida Theme Parks
Its close proximity to the Legoland Florida Theme Park & Water Park is also a great reason to stay right inside the Legoland Florida Resort.
For a fun-filled day spent at the Legoland Florida parks, all one has to do is exit the main entrance of the Legoland hotels, walk about 100 steps along the dedicated sidewalk for resort guests and then enter the Legoland Florida theme park entrance. It’s THAT easy!
- I liked the ability to leave things in our hotel room and be able to run back if needed.
- My youngest is four years old and he still occasionally naps so it was helpful to be able to have the hotel right there in case he got really tired while at the park. He was pretty amped up from all the excitement so naps did not actually happen – I should have known! BUT, if you have young ones, staying right on property is a benefit.
- At the end of a fun-filled day at the Legoland Florida Theme Parks, the kids (read: I) did not have the energy to do much more than just walk back to the hotel, let alone hail an Uber or taxi to a hotel not on property. If you stay at the Legoland Florida Resort, there are no extra car trips at the end of the day at the park. It’s SO great!
3. Legoland Hotels are BEAUTIFUL & FUN!
If you decide to stay at the Legoland Florida Resort you’ll have two hotel options to choose from – The Legoland Hotel or Legoland Pirate Island Hotel.
- Both enjoy the same main entrance right at the original Legoland Hotel.
- Both hotels are a nice size but not overwhelming to navigate.
- Hotel amenities and activities at both hotels are available to guests, regardless of which hotel you decide to stay in.
- Each room is Lego-themed and set up for families, with a separate bunk area for children.
- Legoland Pirate Island Hotel is nearly brand new! (at the time of this post) I felt it was super clean and the rooms are very quiet.
4. Legoland Florida Resort – ALL The EXTRA Perks!
- Heated resort-style pools, a super fun mini-golf course, s’mores and bonfires and a beautiful boardwalk area to enjoy a gorgeous central-Florida sunset over Lake Eloise.
- Master builder workshops are included with your hotel stay! You even get to keep your amazing Lego creations!
- Complimentary breakfast with the hotel stay is ABUNDANT and delicious each morning. The hearty breakfast definitely set us up for a day of fun at the parks. Even the waffles are shaped like Lego bricks! The restaurants will also accommodate food allergies to the best of their abilities, which many families will greatly appreciate.
- Free parking on-site if you drive your own car to the resort. (NOTE: We did not rent a car, but chose to hire a private driver service with Orlando Shuttle Service. I’d highly recommend this shuttle service if in need in the central Florida area. The communication is great, service is impeccable and the transportation is very reliable.
Legoland Pirate Island Hotel
When deciding to stay on property – which is a GREAT choice you will not regret! – you will have two hotel options to choose from: The Legoland Hotel, which is the original hotel for the property built in 2011, and the brand new Legoland Pirate Island Hotel, opened to the public in the summer of 2020.
Reasons To Stay At Legoland Pirate Island Hotel:
- Pirates! Everything is pirate-themed and since I have three young boys, they thought the theming throughout this hotel was epic! There are various themed rooms inside the original Legoland Hotel, ranging from regular Lego bricks to princesses to pirates. With having only boys, we knew that inside the Legoland Pirate Island Hotel, we would have a very boy-themed room.
- It is NEW! I love staying at new and clean properties. The original Legoland Hotel is still fairly new as well, but the Legoland Pirate Island Hotel just opened to the public in the summer of 2020, just 6 short months prior to us staying there.
- In-room treasure hunts with daily Lego treasures.
- Shipwreck Restaurant! I’m a foodie and just because we’re staying at a family-focused resort doesn’t mean I want to compromise on food or quality. The Shipwreck Restaurant has delicious food and plenty of it.
- We could still use all of the amenities at the original Legoland Hotel while staying at the newer hotel. The original Legoland Hotel boasts Bricks Family Restaurant, the Lego building stations in the hotel lobby entrance, the Skyline Lounge, the Lego Castle play area and the amazing pool and slide area located directly outside the original hotel.
Legoland Pirate Island Guest Rooms
One of the best things about staying at the Legoland Florida Resort complex is the amazing, thoughtful Lego creations placed throughout the guest rooms.
Kids Bunk Areas
A separate bunk area to host three children is a huge bonus in any hotel guest room.
So many hotels are set up for families of four: 2 adults and 2 children. So many of us have more than two children and the Legoland Resort hotel rooms accommodate that!
Each bunk area also includes a television where my kids watched a few Lego movies at the end of our very busy days at the park. The Legoland Florida Resort even has its very own television station complete with Lego-themed movies and shows!
Lego Building Area Inside The Room
Inside the kids bunk area, right along the wall under the television, each room has a Lego building area all set up for the kiddos to produce their exciting creations!
There is also a handy little “Lego-trough” that the kids can store their random Lego pieces in. (Read: So parents can avoid stepping on those ever-so-sharp and hard Lego pieces in the middle of the night!)
Centrally-Located Bathroom
The hotel bathroom inside the Legoland Pirate Island hotel is located in the middle of the room, separating the kids bunk area from the adults King-sized bed area.
I like the location of the bathroom inside the guest room as it was easy for everyone to access.
The bathroom inside our guest room was quite small, but let’s be honest, we did not spend much time in there at all! It had a shower with tub and a nice vanity area – it fit the bill for what we needed.
King-Sized Bed & Adult Area
The adult area inside the guest rooms is generous in size.
There is a very comfortable King-sized bed complete with deliciously soft linens and bedding (soooooo cozy).
There is a generous amount of space to walk around the bed also, which is very helpful when there are five humans inside a guest room! One night, we even pulled the trundle mattress from the kids bunk area and placed it in the adult area so my youngest could fall asleep earlier than my older two children. The trundle mattress fit perfectly along side the King-sized bed and there was still room to walk around.
Other guest room amenities include:
- Desk area
- Keurig coffee machine
- Mini refrigerator
- Small end table
- Flat screen television on the wall
- Microwave (upon request)
- Luggage and clothing storage area. This area consists of a large shelf on top, hangers and hanging area in the middle and one very large, deep drawer for clothes.
Shipwreck Restaurant
When we travel, one of our favorite things to do is enjoy great food! And, just because we’re staying at a fun, family-themed resort and theme park doesn’t mean that we should have to expect to sacrifice this either!
Complimentary Breakfast
I don’t know about your or your children, but the moment mine wake up they have one thing on the brain: FOOD – And lots of it! I do have three growing boys who love breakfast food so there’s that…
My expectations of the complimentary breakfast included with the hotel stay was definitely exceeded by the spread this restaurant has available!
I was expecting the basics: cereal, fruit, yogurt, juices, coffee, etc.
We received WAY MORE with the complimentary breakfast! Large platters of all-you-can-eat eggs, pancakes, French toast sticks, waffles, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, amazing fruit plates and more are served table-side.
The serving staff is really good about checking back to refill anything you may be out of on your platter, which in our case is always the pancakes!
And of course, the basics of yogurt, granola, cereal and toast are available upon request for a lighter breakfast.
Dinner at Shipwrecks
We decided to enjoy a fabulous dinner one night during our stay at the Shipwreck Restaurant. This was a great decision! The food is abundant and absolutely delicious!
There are three family-style platter options available (at the time of this post).
- Pirate Platter: Slow-cooked beef brisket, BBQ ribs, spare ribs, smoked sausage, slow-roasted chicken served with all sorts of side dishes! We chose this platter and I assure you, you will find it amazing!
- Seadog Skillet: Flank steak, pork tenderloin, blackened fish, citrus shrimp, rotisserie chicken and all the sides. When we go back to Legoland Florida, we will certainly have to try out this family-style platter as it looked amazing as well!
- Plant-Based Menu available as well!
Each family-style dinner is capped off with a perfect ending: a delicious, warm and gooey chocolate chip cookie in a small cast-iron skillet served al a mode! DELICIOUS!
Legoland Florida Resort Amenities
We spent three full days at the Legoland Florida Theme Park and Water Park with one additional day built in just to enjoy the hotel amenities.
I am SO glad we did this! While we had an incredible time enjoying the parks and all that they have to offer, we needed a “flex day” just to relax, swim at the resort pools, play mini golf, enjoy an evening bonfire with s’mores and partake in a beautiful central-Florida sunset.
(And let’s be honest, just laying in the sun with a good book is exactly what I desire in a relaxing vacation day!)
Mini Golf
We started out our resort morning with a rousing game of mini-golf! My oldest boy is highly competitive and felt he needed to get in some practice on his golf skills!
The mini golf course is very fun and complete with several Lego creatures beautifully-staged throughout the course.
Note: Mini-golf is an additional fee. It is a minimal fee and will add a lot of fun to your day!
Heated Pools + Slides
This is where we spent the bulk of our resort day.
My kids are little fish and it’s tough to pull them out of the water. The pools opened at 11 a.m. and close at 9 p.m.! This made for a full day of water fun!
The pool even boasts hundreds (if not thousands!) of Lego-style building blocks. My children, along with several other kids at the pool, built a life-sized Lego raft where they practiced getting into and floating from one end of the pool to the other! The Lego blocks are such a fun idea!
The slide at the original Legoland hotel is also really fun. I lost track of how many times my children ran (I mean walked!) up and down those stairs that day – probably hundreds!
Bonfire + S’mores
The Legoland Florida Resort complex hosts a huge outdoor bonfire area with chairs for seating, near the boardwalk area down by Lake Eloise.
Grab a s’mores kit at the front desk and make your way down by the lake. Enjoy delicious sweet s’mores along with a fantastic sunset with your loved ones!
NOTE: The s’mores kits are not included with the resort fee or booking, however, the kits are super reasonable and it’s a lovely way to end a busy day at the Legoland Florida parks.
Sunset on the Boardwalk
Central Florida has incredible sunsets! Sunny, clear days give way to oranges, yellows and pinks during the dinner hour.
The day we enjoyed just hanging out at the Legoland Florida resort complex, we set our watches to just before sunset to make sure we got out of the pool in time to enjoy a sunset on the boardwalk. It was spectacular!
Master-Builder Workshops
Make sure to sign up for a Master-Builder workshop at the Legoland Florida resort. This amenity is a highlight!
The Legoland Florida Resort offers multiple Master-Building workshops per day, so you’ll definitely find a time that works for your family. Be sure to sign up early as spots fill quickly.
All of the Master-Building workshops last about 45 minutes to 1 hour and the kids get to keep the Lego building sets that they create – SO fun!
Plan Your Legoland Florida Resort Adventure
When planning out your trip to Legoland Florida, you’ll need to consider a few things in order to ensure a successful trip:
- How many nights/day will you stay at the Legoland Florida Resort? Is the resort running any specials for the time of year you’ll be traveling?
- How many days will you spend at the Legoland Theme Park and/or Legoland Water Park?
- Is it high season at the parks? Consider visiting during shoulder or low seasons such as early December, just after the US Thanksgiving and in January and early February, before spring break.
- Consider the weather possibilities during the season you are visiting. Is it January and the weather could make major swings? OR are you visiting during hot, humid July?
We decided to stay at the Legoland Florida Resort for a total of 4 nights/5 days. This worked so well for our family!
BONUS IDEA: Add In A “Flex Day”
While one can certainly visit all the highlights of the Legoland Theme Park and Legoland Water Park in two full days, we opted to go for a full three days at the park. The weather in central Florida can be dicey in January, however, we ended up with absolutely perfect winter weather – sun & 80 degrees! This led to us adding an additional day at the Legoland parks, solely for the purpose of taking in a few more rides and visiting the Legoland Water Park for another full afternoon. My kids LOVE the water so anywhere there is a pool – it’s sure to be a great vacation!
We spent the additional day at the Legoland Florida Resort just hanging out at the pool area. We lucked out – the weather was gorgeous! That day was fantastic and I highly recommend having a “flex day” in your plans so the vacation can be not only super fun & awesome, but also relaxing and rejuvenating as well. There’s nothing worse than coming home from a vacation feeling wiped out…believe us, we’ve certainly been there!

*Visiting During Covid-19 Pandemic*
Our trip to Legoland Florida Resort and theme parks occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Legoland Resort complex, along with the Legoland theme parks, took the utmost precautions in preventing the spread of Covid-19 by instilling their “Safe To Play” protocols. Read about that HERE.
We felt the Legoland resort complex and the theme parks did an EXCELLENT job of encouraging mask wearing, social distancing, sanitizing, etc. NOTE: This is our personal opinion. We would not hesitate to travel here again during the Covid-19 pandemic.
I was excited to discover this page. I want to to thank you for your time for this particularly fantastic read!! I definitely liked every little bit of it and i also have you bookmarked to look at new stuff in your website. Esmaria Van Atalanta
We’ve been to Legoland in CA once- it was so fun! I had no idea how interactive the hotels were though. That’s so cool!
Super detailed and wonderful post. You provided every bit of information a potential visitor would want. Thank you for sharing!!
We have not been to Legoland yet. Looking forward to going.
We’ve been wanting to visit Legoland near San Diego. It looks like such a fun time, and of course, the kids love legos.
You had me at “the waffles are shaped like Legos!” I would love to go there one day!
